Pacific beaches are perfect for surfing.

San Juan del Sur is an excellent destination with more than 37 miles of coastline and good waves for this sport.

Playa Maderas located only 7.5 miles from San Juan del Sur, is a favorite for surfers where they celebrate a tournament that draws together national and international surfers. Nearby beaches such as Playa Hermosa, Popoyo, Los Perros and Manzanillo are also ideal for surfing.


Nicaragua with its two oceans, lakes, rivers, lagoons, and hydrografic basins, is a magnificent destination for getting involved in sports fishing.

The National and International Sports Fishing Tournament takes place during September in the San Juan River, event that gathers fishermen from Central America, Nicaragua and other countries.

Some hotels and tour operators offer sports fishing packages for begginers and for fishing experts.


Those delighted with strong emotions can take pleasure in canopy tours among treetops by sliding on cords and through hanging bridges. All of this takes place by using aerial platforms located between 3 and 30 meters height above the ground, from where you will appreciate nature from a different perspective. You can rely on specialized guides, the best equipment, including safety caps, harnesses, pulleys, gloves and of course, the best security techniques.

You can practice canopying at several places: in Mombacho Volcano, near Granada, in a Natural reserve that stands out in the region for its more than 1340 meters in height. You can also practice it in Las Isletas, Granada, and cross over in the smae manner from island to island. The Managua Sierras and the Rivas Forests also have excellent canopy facilities.


Among the Nicaraguan Pacific Coast there are serveral beaches characterized by their extensive coasts and year round sunny skies. These beaches are favored by their proximity to the capital city, making them highly visited beaches by tourists who love aquatic sports such as swimming, diving and fishing.

You can also watch marine turtles spawning in some of these beaches such as: Pochomil, Montelimar, Masachapa, Casares, La Boquita, Poneloya and El Velero, among others.

On the Caribbean Coast you can enjoy beautiful beaches with crystal-clear waters and white sands, perfect for diving and snorkeling.


Forty-five kilometers from the capital, in the City of Granada, you can take tours on board a kayak and tour the canals in Las Isletas in the Graat Lake. This tour allows you the benefit of an impressive scenic beauty and bird watching.

San Ramon and the Istian River in Ometepe Island, offers kayaks for travelling while enjoying the exhuberant vegetation and observing some tropical wildlife such as monkeys commonly hanging on the trees.


San Juan del sur offers exceptional vogayes onboard sailboats and other vessels that comfortably acommodate tourists. They have excellent service with snacks and beverages available during the entire tour.


From the sky you can observe the country´s natural beauty by flying on a hot air Balloon and living an unforgettable experience.

Flights take off at sunrise and travel through different routes for about two hours. The exact flight time, course and landing site cannot be prognosticated since take off is done from different locations, depending on wind conditions. But you must prepare for living very intense hours, filled with adrenaline.

Managua has clubs with beautiful 18 hole professional golf courses, some of them also have semi-Olimpic swimming pools, professional tennis courts, fronton and different restaurants where you can enjoy international cuisine and typical platters. 

Nature walks in Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve are very interesting for those who take pleasure in exploring exuberant vegetation.

With a specialized guide or following the trails marked with signposts at the entry, you can enjoy different tours that allow you to learn about orchids and other species that are abundant in the tropical cloud forest.

Masaya Volcano also has a diversity of paths for nature walks. Its infraestructure and beautiful landscape make it an ideal destination.

Between Matagalpa and Jinotega, you will find Selva Negra, known for its coffee plantations where you can walk while you learn about the process for obtainig the best exportation coffee in the North.

Also you can hike through Zapatera Island, the Solentiname Archipelago, Los Guatuzos Wildlife Reserve, and other private reserves. 


You can practice all kinds of aquatic activities in Great Corn Island and Little Corn Island.

The small island has a surface area of approximately 1.2 miles with beautiful coral reefs, a special distinction for diving lovers.


Momotombo Volcano nearby to Leon, with 1300 meters height, it is an imposing landscape when viewed from Managua. It offers the possibility of climbing up to viewpoints located at different levels, where you can appreciate the surrounding panorama.

Concepcion and Maderas Volcanoes are commonly chosen for climbing. In the latter, you can appreciate stone glyphs, cascades and a fascinating lagoon in the crater.

Cerro Negro Volcano is an active volcano that attracts many tourists who wish to reach its crater. It is the youngest volcano in Central America and climbing it is a true adventure that reaches 675 meters height. When you reach the top you will be rewarded with an impressive view of the City of Leon and its surroundings.
